Teen slapped with robbery, 2 other charges

first_imgAn 18-year-old was on Tuesday slapped with three charges and appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Shamar Sears appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse and pleaded not guilty to the first charge which stated that on September 27, 2019’ at Robb Street, Georgetown, while being in company of others, he robbed Alfredo Rodrigues of a phone valued $30,000.He was further accused of unlawfully and maliciously damaging one shirt valued $3000, property of Trevor Clement while the third charge stated that he also resisted arrest from Police Constable Clement.According to information, on the day in question, Rodrigues was walking along Robb Street, when Sears and others approached him and robbed him of his phone.Rodrigues reported the matter and a city Police Officer, who was on Cornhill Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, saw one of the suspects, Sears, and approached him.The court was told that the officer attempted to arrest the defendant; however, the two men got into a scuffle and Sears held on to the City Police Officer’s shirt, damaging it in the process.Hence, Sears was arrested and taken into custody where he was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him and charges were instituted.The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, released Thomas on $75,000 bail and instructed him to report to the City Constabulary every Monday and Friday until the determination of the trial.Sears is slated to make his next court appearance on December 17, 2019.Alast_img read more
